Issa Dub

*Synonyms for Dub: lame, corny, dry*

Maaaaannnnn if we don’t get some of these clowns all the way out of here. From Kanye West to that “underground artist” that just won’t stop releasing less than mediocre songs. We all know that someone. And trust you me, you don’t EVER want to be them. Where are the gate keepers in music?  Why are there so many confused souls trying to record music? We need to call up Farrakhan because this has gone too far. These new niggas have lost it. By “it” I’m referring to individuality, grace, and the trusted sauce. Worst part is, they’re so far up their own asses, they think they are the curators of said sauce. Total cringe. When I first started picking up on the Kanye rants, and witnessed Chance’s peak-a-boo with his co-sign of the rapper’s inexcusable comments, I took a second and wondered if this was all one big troll. Maybe preparation for his album he’s releasing this year. But then I thought, is that even a justification? Am I willing to excuse his antics provided it was only a marketing tool? Na. He’s grown. And a father. And an African American man from Chicago, that built himself into a household name. The man has responsibilities and  should be a leader for his community, not neglecting them for the sake of spray tan Trump. I think the fumes got to Kanye. Leave the door open a crack during your next sit down guys. Gross.

Then there’s the OVER saturated music scene. Sorry, excuse me. Over saturated “make noise, and copy other peoples style, songs, and persona” scene. The real music scene is actually dope as fuck. Shout out to A-1 talent like Nipsey and Stefflon Don for holding their own, and consistently outdoing themselves. Such a shame to see and unfortunately hear what else is out there. People, people. When will you learn. Trendy is late. Views don’t guarantee longevity. Quality over quantity. This revolving door of basic tune after basic tune needs to stop turning. I’m feeling nauseous. Someone please make artist development important again, because some of these somewhat artists are in shambles. Pieces everywhere. Sad part is, some of them could potentially build themselves into somebody worth listening to if they weren’t always scrambling to get a seat at the popular table, and doing it for the gram in an attempt to impress all the shawtys they wish they could bag. *Sigh* Back in the lab you go my g. Take time. You could use it. And judging by your bookings calendar, you got a lot of it.

This is all to say, find yourself and be that person. Don’t get distracted by the bright lights, and multiple likes. Work and build at your own pace. Dance to the beat of your own drum instead of always waiting for someone to teach you the choreography. This life will consume you if you allow it. Be conscious of your past, and confident about your future. Insecurities tend to rise to the top, so good luck trying to hide them behind your fake deep posts and telling tales that are never yours. This isn’t a campaign to stop people from “shining”, but if it results in getting these dubs the fuck outta here, I’m all for it. Live your truth. Ain’t nobody else going to live it for you.
