The British are Coming!

Someone really needs to go check on Krept and/or Konan. Cus Giggs just opened a dialogue, that not many people would engage in. If you haven’t already heard about the recent rumblings in the U.K music scene, Giggs just let a few shots out the chamber. Like, really let em go. Now I’m not talking Nas “fuck with your soul like ether” type shots, but damn near close enough.

Recently, Krept posted on IG basking in the charting success of a drill song remix “Air Force” , which he and Konan are featured on. The song is a remix of DigDat’s original Air Force, which does not include any features. Below is Krept’s post, with Gigg’s response, which has since gone viral:

All jokes aside, and trust me, Giggs killed em with the jokes, it made me wonder how much truth there was to his statement. People began raising comparisons like “Well, didn’t Drake do the same thing with Giggs?” Now hold on lil man. As far as I remember, Drake collaborated with Giggs in an attempt to gain a stronger following in the U.K, and possibly some street credibility while he’s out there. We all know Giggs can back it, musically or otherwise, not even a question here. Do I think it’s the same? Absolutely not. The more I think about it, the more I wonder how sincere Krept & Konan are when it comes to these collaborations with lesser known U.K talent. It’s as if they sign on to the remix, just to let people know they’re the reason if the song blows up (e.g Abra’s Robbery Remix). While you try and dissect the truth in that statement, you might want to check up on Yungen while you’re at it. My guess is he’s sitting on a Play Dirty shelf somewhere, collecting nothing but dust. Shame shame.

If we really take it in, Krept didn’t even give credit to DigDat in this post. Almost as if he doesn’t believe he is the reason for the songs charting success. Krept is behaving as though he is an artist’s saving grace in the U.K music scene and any artist should be happy to get their one feature. It can even be argued that this is all a clout chase on Krept’s side, which wouldn’t be a reach considering what they did with their Otis video. Not sure what I’m referring to? Oh I’m just simply remembering their purchase of millions of views for that video, in an attempt to look bigger than it was. Perception. It appears as though this is a constant in his life. This is so far from an O.G move. Im with ya Giggs. He’s looking a bit fraudy.

One more thing: Their album in 2015, The Long Way Home, included quite a few American features, but I did not see one artist from the drill or grime scene that Krept is so supportive of. Judging by their track list, they were really looking for U.S mass appeal and acceptance. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen for them, so in 2017 they released their latest album 7 Days & 7 Nights, featuring artists with huge fan bases in the U.K, (e.g Stormzy & J-Hus) in attempt to do what? You guessed it, sell records! They may have been for the people once upon a time, but we’re staring right in the face of entitled, over-hyped glory hunters, in a music scene that does not need any more clout chasers.

Listen fellas, nurture your home base first, before even thinking about goal keeping with  artists around the world. That part.

  1. Somehow you incorporated a reference to “Ether” in a thoughtful analysis about geography, commodification, and clout-chasing aka “Glory Hunting.” #Prototype

Now, I wanna know more about what see in these different art diets’ bodies of work. I’ll stay tuned …
